GOING FROM AN ESL PROGRAM TO UNIVERSITY OR COLLEGE IN THE USA
|
Going from English as Second Language (ESL) programs to academic programs at college or university in the state--or anywhere in the country--is one way to make your American post-secondary experience easier. The main language of instruction in all US colleges is English, which makes a solid grasp of English essential for academic success. Some universities and colleges offer ESL courses alongside your normal academic program, or in preparation for the academic year. High schools also frequently offer ESL courses and programs, some of which are focused on college preparation. Most colleges and universities in the state have language proficiency requirements for international student applicants, and some high school or private language school ESL programs are designed to help you meet these admission requirements. Thus, an ESL program can help smooth the way to college study here or in other states of the US.
